Sensors

Haltech MAP Sensors
A Haltech MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) provides instantaneous pressure information to the electronic control unit (ECU) from the intake manifold - the amount of boost or vacuum in the intake manifold. This is necessary to calculate air density and determine the engine's air mass flow rate or in other words engine load. Engine load is used as a reference for all base fuel and ignition maps.

1 Bar Map Sensor
A 1 bar MAP sensor is capable of reading intake pressures below or equal to atmospheric pressure, for this reason a 1 bar MAP sensor is suitable only for naturally aspirated engines (ie not turbo or supercharged).

2 Bar Map Sensor
A 2 bar MAP sensor is capable of reading intake pressures up to 1 bar of positive pressure above atmospheric (otherwise known as boost). This is equivalent to around 14.7psi of boost or 100kpa of positive pressure. This sensor is suitable for turbocharged or supercharged vehicles running 15psi of boost or less.

3 Bar Map Sensor
A 3 bar MAP sensor is capable of reading intake pressures up to 2 bar of positive pressure above atmospheric (otherwise known as boost). This is equivalent to around 29.4psi of boost or 200kpa of positive pressure. This sensor is suitable for turbocharged or supercharged vehicles running between 15psi and 30psi of boost.

Haltech Air Temperature Sensor
The Haltech intake Air Temperature Sensor (ATS) provides instantaneous intake air temperature information to the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The ATS is a critical component of the engine management system as air temperature directly effects air density (as air gets hotter it gets less dense). The Haltech ATS is made to OEM specifications and couples with a weatherproof wiring connector.

An intake Air Temperature Sensor should be used with all engine configurations.

The Haltech Air Temperature Sensor includes plug and pins.

Haltech Throttle Position Sensor
A Haltech Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is a device that tells the ECU how far open or closed the throttle butterfly is, and how quickly the throttle is opening or closing. The Haltech TPS connects to the throttle shaft via a D shaft keyway. The TPS is particularly useful for determining additional fuel enrichment as the throttle is opened quickly (throttle pump), it is also very important in performance applications where Nitrous Oxide is being injected into the engine. A TPS can also be used to help improve fuel economy and engine efficiency as the engine decelerates. The Haltech TPS is made to above OEM specifications and uses a weatherproof 3 pin wiring connector.

A TPS should be used with all engine configurations.

The Haltech Throttle Position Sensor includes plug and pins.

Haltech 4 Wire Oxygen Sensor
The Haltech 4 Wire narrow band Oxygeny sensor (o2 Sensor) is placed in the exhaust stream and can detect if an engine is running rich, lean or at a stoic metric air/fuel ratio. The Haltech 4 wire O2 sensor is great for fuel economy on highway runs or cruising around town where the ECU can run in “closed loop” mode.

A 4 wire O2 sensor is not a necessity for all engines however if fuel economy is on your list of priorities then it’s a must have item.

The Haltech 4 Wire Oxygen Sensor couples with a weatherproof 3 pin connector.

Haltech Hall Effect Sensor
The Haltech Hall Effect sensor has been in production for a number of years and it has been
a popular item due to it’s ability to be able to generate both home and trigger signals from the
one sensor.

The S3 and S4 sensors are used in conjunction with rare earth magnets which must be mounted in non-ferrous surrounds. It is vital to use Haltech supplied rare earth magnets. You may buy cheaper rare earth magnets at your local electronic store but there are many different types of rare earth magnets made from different materials and with greatly differing properties. Some magnets don’t have the required magnetic properties and others will fail at higher temperatures. Others will work correctly at first but will fail over time, particularly at high temperatures. The rare earth magnets supplied by Haltech are carefully chosen for their magnetic and temperature properties to give a long life even if operated at fairly high temperatures.

Haltech Rare Earth Magnets
Haltech Rare Earth Magnets (REM) are extremely strong for their size and have the highest resistance to demagnetisation of any permanent magnet known to man.
Haltech REM are rated to the highest temperature you can get which makes them ideal for use in an automotive application - beware these suckers are strong!
Haltech REM are polarised and designed to be used exclusively with Haltech's own S3 and S4 Dual Channel Hall Effect Sensors.

Output Controllers

Boost Control Solenoid
The Haltech boost control solenoid allows the user to map boost pressure levels on turbocharged vehicles through the engine management system.

Haltech uses a highly durable short stroke solenoid to increase durability, longevity and of course accuracy of the valve. A high force spring return is used to produce swift valve closing and to prevent valves "blowing" open under high boost applications. Valve movement control (Duty Cycle) map is accessed via the ECU programming software. Raising the duty cycle increases boost pressure, while lowering the duty cycle will reduce boost pressure. The boost control feature allows boost response adjustment for varying turbo sizes.

Depending on the ECU being used some people may want to utilise the gear based boost control feature - this allows separate boost levels to be set at every RPM in every gear. One of the latest features is also the implementation of closed loop boost control where all that needs to be done is tell the ECU exactly what boost to run at each RPM and the computer computes the opening duty cycle of the boost control solenoid automatically - this feature accounts for changes in air temperature, barometric pressure, intercooler heatsoak and any other unexpected factors that may effect inlet air temperature and pressures.

With the continual improvement and innovation consistently going into all of Haltech ECU's in the area of boost control its hard to imagine how your turbocharged engine ever lived without a Haltech boost control solenoid!

Haltech Idle Speed Control Motor & Housing
The Haltech Idle Speed Motor is a 4 wire stepper motor controlled idle valve, this valve allows the ECU to control the volume of air entering the intake manifold at idle.

Once the ECU has control of the volume of air entering the intake manifold it can control idle speed regardless of engine temperature, engine load (from an automatic gearbox or AC compressor) or additional electrical load (from AC controls or headlights).

The Haltech Idle Speed Motor has been designed specifically for use with the Haltech idle speed control housing (although it can also be used directly with some GM throttle bodies). The Haltech idle speed control housing is machined from block aluminum to exacting tolerances required for a perfect seal every time. The housing is then anodized black for that stealth look inside your engine bay.

The Haltech Idle Speed Motor connects via a weatherproof 4 wire connector.

Trim Module
The Trim control gives the operator a remote access control for finely adjusting either turbo boost, fuel or ignition trim. Can be used with or without a PC connected to the ECU. Ideal for tuning whilst on the dynamometer. It is suitable for use with all current model ECU’s and supports:

+/- 12.5% fuel mixture
+/- 50% fuel mixture
+/- 10 degrees ignition timing
+/- 10 degrees trailing split (Rotary engines only)
0 – 100% turbo boost control

Haltech Shift Light
The Haltech shift light is used for alerting the driver when to shift gears. Shift Lights allow the driver to stay focused on the road or track, without having to divert concentration to the tachometer to determine what revs the engine is currently at. At high speeds or under hard acceleration, the last thing you want to do is take your eyes off the road!

The Haltech shift light also helps to prevent over revving of the engine or hitting the rev limiter. Many stock tachometers are slow to respond to the engine's actual speed under full acceleration. The tachometer could be reporting a lower RPM than the engine's actual RPM (as much as several hundred RPMS!).

The Haltech Shift light is operated directly from the ECU's microprocessor to ensure fast, accurate and dependable response for you to shift at the exact RPM you want.

The desired RPM shift point can be set any desired RPM point through a Haltech ECU resulting in lower, consistent E.T.s at the track.

Ignition

Coils

LS1 Ignition Coil
A high energy single coil with 'built-in igniter'. For use with wasted spark and direct fire application.

Dual 12V Ignition Coil
A high energy single coil with two posts. For use with a wasted spark direct fire application.

Ignition Module
Haltech has a range of ignition modules available for use with our systems. Single channel, Dual channel and Three channel modules are available in an ecu-dwell format (ecu required to control dwell time). All variants are supplied with built in temperature protection and a maximum current limit of 9 Amperes.
The Ignition module is an amplifier designed to fire an electronic ignition coil. The ECU ignition signal connects to the ignition module, which then fires the ignition coil.

Single Channel (Haltech)
Suitable to fire one coil, commonly used in a distributor application.

Dual Channel (Haltech)
Suitable to fire two ignition coils, commonly used in a 4 cylinder direct fire wasted spark application.

Triple Channel (Haltech)
Suitable to fire three ignition coils, commonly used in a 6 cylinder direct fire wasted spark application.

Wiring Harness

Flying Lead Loom
A “Flying Lead” loom refers to a non-terminated wiring connections. Meaning the wiring has been left without terminals so that the user can fit the wiring loom and then cut the wiring to the desired length when installing the Kit. Once in place the terminal and connector plugs can be attached. You will require a connector kit (P/N 30063) to complete this instalation.

Terminated Harness
A “fully terminated” harness or wiring loom refers to the prefabrication of a general purpose wiring loom with the connectors already crimped and soldered into place. This allows the user the job just to position and affix the harness.
